vRealize Log Insight for vCenter – End of Availability
It’s the end of
an era Availability for vRealize Log Insight for vCenter Server which will be end of life 23rd of August 2019. But don’t panic! VMware are not dropping the product, merely the free version that is licensed with a vCenter Server license key. Version 4.6 will be the last version that accepts the vCenter Server license key.
Why has this decision been made? In my opinion (not necessarily that of VMware) it demostrates the evolution of vRealize Log Insight (vRLI), from humble beginnings to a powerhouse of highly scalable log management with intuitive dashboards, sophisticated analytics and broad third-party extensibility (also check out the awesome content packs from BluMedora here).
A product that provides deep operational visibility and faster troubleshooting across physical, virtual and cloud environments, was never going to remain free forever and I feel that this move, rather than being a backwards step (we all love free anything), is a huge leap forwards and demonstrates VMware’s willingness to invest in the products development, ensuring that it is around for a very long time.
OK I believe you, what are my options? Customers interested in using the next version of vRLI can explore the following options:
- Purchase Log Intelligence, the new VMware SaaS offering as part of VMware Cloud Services, supporting both public and private clouds, with a 30-day free trial (see, still some ‘free-ness’ involved!)
- Upgrade to vRealize Suite, our enterprise ready cloud management suite
- Purchase full vRealize Log Insight as a standalone product
What becomes of my existing vRLI implementation? If you use vRealize Log Insight for vCenter today, you can continue to use versions up to 4.6.x, until the End of General Support (EOGS) of vRealize Log Insight 4.6.x on August 23, 2019. Please refer to the VMware Lifecycle Product Matrix for the latest updates of EOGS date for vRealize Log Insight 4.6.x, or any of our other products for that matter.
